Your first grader should read for a minimum of 15 minutes each night. This could include your child reading to you or you reading to your child. The book title(s) read each night should be written on the lined, right hand side of the daily planner. Your child will be rewarded each Friday for having a book title written for each night.
Your child brought home a green folder called “Fast Track”. This is daily reading homework that has activities listed with each poem. I will send home two new poems a week, so I ask that the green folder and log sheet be returned on Friday’s. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding this new program.
Along with reading each night, your first grader should also practice his/her spelling words and sight words that are sent home with each newsletter on Fridays. I will be assessing the spelling words and sight words each Friday and these will be included in your child’s grades.
If additional homework is assigned, you will find it in your child’s take-home folder and it will be clearly marked as homework. Additional assignments could include math games, worksheets or unfinished classroom work. These assignments are due the following school day, unless otherwise noted.
